As Commercial Managing Director, APAC, Steve’s remit includes M&A and commercial partnerships in order to strengthen the HAVAS Group offering in the region. He’s additionally tasked with leading HAVAS Blvd agency as its Managing Director.
With 20 years in the industry, he’s a leading voice in the creation of insight-led communication campaigns, which blend earned, shared and owned media.
Steve’s resume includes founding Chieftain Communications (acquired in 2014), leading Making Waves Australia and driving DDB Australia’s PR, experiential and sponsorship division, Mango.
Steve frequently speaks at government and industry events and has been a judge at numerous industry awards…he’s also won a bunch of them along the way (Spikes, D&AD, AdNews, CommsCon, PRIA, B&T, SABRE, Clios, PR Awards Asia, AGDA, Mumbrella).
Steve has had the privilege of having worked with many leading brands, including Toyota, Lexus, Nestlé, Samsung, Telstra, Tigerair, Coca-Cola, and eBay, to name (brag!) a few.
Kate Smailes is the Managing Partner of Havas Blvd and Chief Client Officer at Havas Red, where she leads a talented team of communications and production specialists. A commercially astute leader with nearly two decades of experience, Kate combines strategic vision with a deep understanding of client service, team leadership, financial stewardship, and risk mitigation. She is known for driving results while fostering a diverse and inclusive agency culture.
With a career spanning brand experience, marketing, PR, and communications, Kate has delivered impactful campaigns for leading brands such as Toyota, Lexus, Nestlé, BlueScope Steel, Qantas, Diageo, St.George Bank, and Revlon. She currently serves as Chief Client Officer for Toyota Motor Corporation Australia (TMCA), Havas’ largest client in the APAC region, whom she has partnered with for an impressive 18 years.
Outside of her core role, Kate is a committed contributor to the wider communications and events industry. She has served as a judge for the B&T Women in Media Awards, B&T 30 Under 30, The Effie Awards, Cannes Lions and the Australian Event Awards, championing excellence, innovation, and gender equity across the industry.
Kate also gives back through her governance work as a board director for the Australian Institute of Motor Sport Safety (AIMSS), the peak body for motorsport safety and research in Australia.
Kate’s career is defined by her authenticity, strategic vision, and commitment to lifting others as she leads. Her impact spans well beyond her clients, shaping not just brand narratives, but the future of the client service profession itself.
Michael Ozard is Group Brand Experience Director at Havas Blvd, with over two decades shaping award-winning brand experience, PR, and partnership campaigns. Known for building high-impact teams and pushing creative boundaries, he has delivered standout work for global brands including Netflix, Apple, Toyota, Lexus, Virgin Australia, Amazon, Coca-Cola, and McDonald’s.
Since joining Havas in 2018, Michael has played a pivotal role in transforming its brand experience division into a fully integrated agency and creative studio. His leadership has seen the team recognised across B&T, AdNews, CommsCon, and Campaign Awards, while also pioneering new industry thinking through Havas’s New Lens on Brand Experience white paper.
An experienced judge and mentor, Michael blends strategy and creativity to craft bold, culture-shaping experiences that don’t just reach audience – they move them.
Elizabeth English is an integrated advertising professional with over 20 years of international experience in senior account roles spanning business and brand, digital and marketing. Her category experience includes NFPs, Tech, Finance, FMCG and Retail.
Elizabeth has been highly successful in the development and roll out of multi-channel creative strategies for brands such as Shell, VMware, HSBC, Canteen and Nestlé across multiple markets — from creative strategy conception through to project completion and evaluation.
Managing teams and multiple projects concurrently with strong attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities is something she excels at.
Very much a people-person, Elizabeth enjoys bringing the right team to the table to deliver a strong and successful result for her clients. She works hard at establishing a team-spirited environment through a positive and proactive leadership style.
